Visiting the Archives
Hours
The Archives are generally open for research Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. The Archives and Special Collections Reading Room remains open until 8pm on Thursdays when University classes are in session.
We are closed on certain University holidays. »More details on hours
We encourage you to contact us in advance of your visit so that we can have your research materials ready when you arrive, especially if you plan to come on a Thursday evening.

The Kautz Family YMCA Archives can be found in suite 318 on the 3rd floor of the Elmer L. Andersen Library, which is located on the west bank of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus.

- Lot 86 (Adjacent to the Law School)
- Enter via the intersection at 19th Ave. S. and 2nd St. S. Public parking is available in lot 86 (See U of M Parking rates web page for current rates.)
- Municipal Parking Ramp (Next to the Holiday Inn)
- Parking is $1.00/hr in the ramp next to the Holiday Inn a block away from Andersen Library. The entrance is between the Holiday Inn and Grandma's Saloon, off Washington Avenue.
- Lot on West River Parkway
- Cheaper but slightly further away, there is parking in the lot on West River Parkway for $.75/hr (pay the machine with cash or a credit card).
- University Parking Ramps on Riverside Avenue
- There are two University parking ramps on Riverside Ave. at 19th Avenue and 21st Avenue, a 5-10 minute walk from the Andersen Library. (See U of M Parking rates web page for current rates.)
- Street Parking
- There are parking meters available on Washington Avenue in front of Grandma's Saloon. Some free parking may be available on neighborhood streets, but such parking is usually restricted to one hour.

Clarke Chambers Travel Fellowship
Support for travel to do research in the Kautz Family YMCA Archives is available. Three or four Clark Chambers Travel Fellowships are awarded each year, with preference given to dissertation writers and early-career scholars. Travel fellowship funds may be used for transportation, lodging, meals, and (to the extent that funds permit) photocopying of archival documents.
