Dagmar Getz Retires After 22 Years of Service
The Kautz Family YMCA Archives said a reluctant goodbye to its longest serving staff member at the end of September 2008 when Dagmar Getz retired. Many YMCA staff members, as well as students and other researchers, have benefited from Dagmar's expertise during her twenty-two years as reference archivist at the Archives, located in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota.
A native of Sweden, Dagmar came to the United States in 1970. After a stint in New York, she arrived in Minnesota, where she worked as an archivist and librarian for Hamline University and the American Swedish Institute, and also as a Swedish language instructor. She started at the YMCA Archives in 1986, just a year after it opened. Since former curator Andrea Hinding's retirement in 2001, she has been primarily responsible for day-to-day operations. As the main reference archivist, Dagmar was the voice and the face of the YMCA Archives to YMCA staff and researchers around the world.
If you'd like to send good wishes to Dagmar, she will continue to receive messages at her University of Minnesota email address, d-getz@umn.edu, for some time. Although her departure leaves a big hole, the remaining staff are ready and able to respond to any inquiries for the Archives. Continue to contact us at ymcaarch@umn.edu or 612.625.3445.
