0093Events on the farm in North Dakota as I remember them. By Anne RosenThis charming reminiscence of life on a farm near the Canadian border was written by the author in her later years. Her parents and their brothers emigrated there from Rumania. She covers schooling, hunting, and family events. There is also an addendum where the archivist, Linda Schloff asked her about religious observances on the farm. 0093

0157Ahistory of the North Dakota Jewish community
This history of Rabbi Papermaster of Grand Forks, N.D. was written by his son, Isadore in . Rabbi Papermaster was persuaded by Rabbi Isaac Elchanen to come to America to serve the Jewish community of Fargo. He decided to move to Grand Forks, but his responsibilities were to every Jewish community in North Dakota without a rabbi. Appended is a Ginsberg family history as well as a history of Congregation B’nai Israel, Grand Forks. 0157

0159This autobiography chronicles the childhood and early adulthood in Russia of Rachel Bella, her arranged marriage with Abe Calof, her meeting him in NewYork, and her impressions of his family and the farm they homesteaded near Devil's Lake, North Dakota. She chronicles extensively her life on the farm and the birth of her children as well as her relations with Abe's family. The dates are roughly 1880-1917.

0159Meier Calof family coll. This Calof collection consists of a photocopy and autobiography, written by Meier Calof in 1941, which describes his life in the old country, his move to America, his work on the railroad and on the farm his family bought, his marriage to Doba, and their life in North Dakota and later in Canada. There is also a magazine article summarizing the account, written by a grandson in 1985.

0160 Siegel-Wilensky-Rubin coll.This family history describes settling at Devil's Lake, N.D. in the 1890s, and eventually opening a furniture store; the marriage of a daughter; the growth of their family; and that family's move to Mpls. The collection also contains papers and articles concerning the Sons of Jacob cemetery in Ramsey County, N.D.

0232Photocopies of material from the Geller Collection. This material was solicited by Mrs. Sam (Toba) Geller and several friends in the 1970s in order to compile a history of Jewish life in North Dakota. The collection consists of first and second-hand accounts of settling on farms or small and medium sized towns; several synagogue histories; and secondary materials such as journal articles and college research papers.

0238 Anna Halpern Rosen Coll. The collection consists of a 31 pp. autobiography, titled, "My Story." Mrs. Rosen chronicles her emigration from Rumania in 1900, her sojourn in Mpls., the store in Hebron, N.D. which her parents bought, her marriage to a man from Fargo, her married life, and the lives of her children, sisters, and brothers.

0246 Two reminiscences, one titled, "My Own Story." by Bessie Schwartz, 37 pp. which tells of her coming to Mpls. from Rumania, her decision to homestead in N.D., her return and wedding in Mpls, her return to N.D. with her husband to open a store, and her married life. The other account, 28 pp., is by her husband, Max, and is titled, "My Life's Recollections. Copies deposited at American Jewish Archives as well.
