History
The St. Paul chapter of Hadassah, a women’s Zionist organization, was founded in1913. That is when the organization’s founder Henrietta Szold visited and inspired a group of women to support her fledgling organization’s efforts to improve public health in Palestine. Hadassah has grown from its small beginnings to become the largest Jewish women’s organization in the United States.
The main purpose of the organization is fundraising for specific social services—Hadassah Medical Organization, Youth Aliyah villages, and educational initiatives, For further information on St. Paul’s chapter see “Our Story: A History of 75 Years of Hadassah in St. Paul,” by Linda Schloff.
Scope and Content Note
The organization of the minutes is as follows: The first folder contains historical materials and the constitution; the extant board minutes are followed by combined use books which contain minutes and other publications. This is followed by materials that illustrate chapter activities and also include some correspondence and other materials spanning two presidencies. There are also regional and national convention materials as well as the research by individuals who contributed to “Our Story” as well as a copy of the publication.
The next section contains public relations materials including rosters, bulletins, and scrapbooks.
