Acquisition Number 146

Inventory: St. Paul Talmud Torah
Records 1.5 linear feet

Provenance: Received as a gift from the St. Paul Talmud Torah in 1988 and 1989. No restrictions on use.

History: The St. Paul Talmud Torah had its roots in the Temple of Aaron Hebrew School, established in 1916. this school used a modern Ivrit-b’Ivrit method of instruction, rather than Yiddish. The school became independent about 1930 and moved into quarters in the Jewish Educational Center, Holly and Grotto in that year.
The school combined with the Capitol City Hebrew School in 19 to become the Bureau of Jewish Education. The present name was adopted when the school moved to Mississippi River Boulevard in 1956. By that time it had absorbed the old Capitol City Hebrew School. In 1982 a day school opened at a refurbished school on South Hamline, and the afternoon school meets there as well.
