Adath Jeshurun Congregation was founded in 1884 by immigrants from Russia and Rumania who settled in Minneapolis’s South Side. According to Rabbi Albert I. Gordon, the congregation went through severe times and rented space until a former church, was purchased in 1900 at 1125 Seventh St. S. Dedication took place in 1903, and the rabbi listed, Rabbi S. Silber, also served the North Side congregations of Kenesseth Israel and Anshei Tavrig.
With the election of a group of English-speaking officers in 1911, Rabbi David Matt, who was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary (the Conservative movement’s seminary) was invited to become rabbi. It has been a Conservative synagogue since. The congregation moved from its Dupont Avenue location to one in Minnetonka in 1995.
