Helpful Hints

The following hints will help researchers get the most of their time at University Archives:

Make an appointment with archives staff to discuss your project and collection needs. Not all collections are readily available; retrieval of some materials may take 24-48 hours.

Begin by searching all relevant archival materials, including finding aids, the University of Minnesota Libraries catalog and IMAGES. This will help you pinpoint what part of the collection or collections you would like to use.

Review all policies and procedures of the Archives and Special Collections at the University of Minnesota. Please note that collections do not circulate and must be used in Andersen Library. Please ask archives staff for clarification of any policies and procedures.

While most materials can be photocopied, there is no self service copying. All photocopies are made by archives staff so be sure to leave yourself enough time to receive your copies, or plan to take notes. Copy fees and other information regarding photocopies and scans can be found here.
