- M. D. Elevitch Collection The collection consists of materials representing the full scope of Elevitch’s writing and editing career, from his early student writings to manuscripts and production materials for his published works. The collection also includes correspondence and other materials relating to Elevitch’s activities in editing and publishing literary magazines, and his participation in the founding of the Association of Literary Magazines of America (ALMA), as well as Elevitch’s personal collection of literary magazines and anthologies, focusing on his interest in experimental forms of contemporary writing. The Collection is important for the general subjects of literary and 'little' magazines, small press publishing, Minnesota authors, and contemporary literature. Rare issues of 'little' magazines such as F.M. Ford's transatlantic review, Cyril Connolly's Horizon, complete runs of Saul Bellow's Noble Savage and Gordon Lish's Genesis West are found in the Collection. Eary work of noted authors such as Don De Lillo, Joyce Carol Oates in Epoch and Philip Roth in The Paris Review are also found in the Collection. Numerous special issues and retrospectives devoted to authors such as F.M. Ford and Edward Dahlberg are present.
- English History Collection (WV) English History of the 17th Century is represented by thousands of items, including broadsides, pamphlets, newsletters, and books providing detailed accounts of the struggles between Parliament and Crown, the Civil War and the Restoration. The collection documents the religious controversies through the century, as well as innumerable matters of the changing social and cultural scene. Most of these items are accessible through the Libraries' catalog, MNCAT.

- Typography Collection (WV) The Typography Collection houses books created as works of art as well as mercantile items. The collection contains books from the more famous presses, such as Kelmscott, Vale, Ashendene, Doves, Gregynog, and Golden Cockerel, as well as productions of hobby printers. The Rare Books Division maintains a special catalog of these presses and of the names of typographers, designers and illustrators. Most of these items also are accessible through the Libraries' catalog, MNCAT.

- World War I Pamphet Collection (WV) Summary: Comprises approximately 5,500 items published worldwide, in all the major languages of the world. The pamphlets treat a broad spectrum of subjects: war, peace, social, political and ethical issues, economic and military concerns, legislation, relief organizations, army training, returning vetrans, neutrality. It includes such formats as maps, journals, posters, and scrap books. The pamphlets are written by organizations as varied as the American Library Association, the Catholic Church, the Red Cross, the National War Garden Commission, the New York Public Library and the League of Nations. Individuals as diverse as Cristabel Pankhurst, Clarence Seward Darrow, Leon Trotskii, Rudyard Kipling, Jan Christian Smuts and Lord Asquith are represented.

Note--Morton D. Elevitch was born in Duluth, Minnesota and received B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Minnesota, where he was a writer, cartoonist and editor for several student publications. After spending some time teaching and travelling, Elevitch founded the literary magazine First Person, and was a founding member of the Association of Literary Magazines of America (ALMA). First Person was the first and only publication of its kind, focusing on letters, diaries, journals, the memoir, and the personal narrative. It is very well documented in the Collection along with hundreds of other distinctive journals. Elevitch’s published works include the novels Grips (1972) and Americans at Home (1976) and the anthology Green Eternal Go (1991), as well as numerous short stories, essays, and reviews. Elevitch’s writing is characterized by its inventive wordplay along with a heavy use of humor and satire.
