Cuneiform signs represent either logogrmas
or syllables. In transliteration, different
signs which have the same syllabic value are
distinguished by accent marks and by subscript
numerals, thus: u, ú, ù, u4,
u5, etc.
(Some scholars prefer to use numerals only:
u, u2, u3,
u4, u5,
etc.) Signs functioning as determinatives (classifiers),
before or after other signs, are written superscript.
