Key to the Text Editions
Cuneiform signs represent either logogrmas or syllables. In transliteration, different signs which have the same syllabic value are distinguished by accent marks and by subscript numerals, thus: u, ú, ù, u4, u5, etc. (Some scholars prefer to use numerals only: u, u2, u3, u4, u5, etc.) Signs functioning as determinatives (classifiers), before or after other signs, are written superscript. Other symbols and special characters used in the text editions are the following:
[    ] text missing due to damage
     sign(s) partially missing
<    > sign(s) omitted by scribe
(    ) material inserted for coherence in translation
x illegible or uncertain sign
PN personal name
pronounced "kh"
š pronounced "sh"
pronounced as an emphatic t
