The National Committee for Prevention of Child Abuse was estblished in 1973 as a Chicago-based non-profit organization. The NCPCA sought to reduce and ultimately eliminate abuse of youngsters by stimulating public awareness, advocating for effective services and policies, and fostering cooperation among existing resouces through coordination within the fifty states. The collection consists of minutes, administrative correspondence, memoranda, and reports, fund-raising files, publicity/public relations materials that include publications, photographs, films, slides, audio and video cassettes, conference materials, and files on local chapters and relations with other organizations. These records relate to all aspects of the NCPCA's efforts to stimulate greater public awareness of the need to prevent child abuse and to encourage the development of public and private prevention activities.
