The collection was donated to the Tretter Collection by QSCC.
The Queer Student Cultural Center (QSCC) is a University sponsored and supported student group on the University of Minnesota campus that offers cultural programs, educational outreach and social events for students throughout the University Community. The first official University of Minnesota student organization for Gay and Lesbian students was begun in May of 1969 under the title of F.R.E.E. (Fight Repression of Erotic Expression). The organization was renamed Minnesota Gay Activists in 1972 and University Lesbian Gay Community in 1977. The organization split in 1982 to become the University Gay Community and the University Lesbians. Other Gay and Lesbian student groups include Bi Wimmin Welcome, organized in 1985, University Bi Community, Bi Students of Color and GLBT International Students, all organized in 1990. In 1991, the University Gay Community, University Lesbians, Bi Wimmin Welcome, University Bi Community, Bi Students of Color and GLBT International Students formed the Association of GLB Student Organizations and Their Friends; in 1998 the group was reformed as QSCC.
QSCC is currently made up of seven member groups and four affiliate groups who help carry out their mission and activities. These seven member groups include Tranarchy, Biversity, Queer Graduate and Professional Association, Queer Women Friends and Allies, Delta Lambda Phi Fraternity, Queer Men and Arch (a coming-out support group). QSCC offers support and networking opportunities to individuals and supports newly forming queer student groups, in addition to their responsibilities in planning and coordinating National Coming Out Week and Spring Pride at the University.
The collection contains log books, emails, flyers, University administrative papers, newspapers, conference reports and budget materials.
