The first shipment of materials for the collection was processed by Deborah Kloiber during the summer of 1999; the second shipment of approximately 15 cubic feet remains unprocessed.
The collection is organized into nine series by function: Board of Directors, Development, Operations, Financial, Programming, Publicity and Publications, Personal Papers of Al Milgrom, Other Organizations and Audio Visual Materials.
The University Film Society (UFS) was formed in 1962 by Al Milgrom to show foreign and independent films. The first film programs were shown during the University of Minnesota's Spring Quarter, 1962, at the Bell Museum of Natural History. In the early 1980s, UFS was incorporated as the Minnesota Film Center, a non-profit organization, yet it retained the University Film Society name.
The collection contains agenda and minutes of the board of directors, grant applications for private and public agencies, correspondence, tax statements, posters and flyers, press releases, audiotapes and videotapes.
