 Historical Note

The architecture firm of Griswold and Rauma was formed in 1963 by John Rauma and David Griswold. Rauma received his degree from the University of Minnesota College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in 1950, and did graduate work at MIT. He returned to Minnesota and to work with the firm of Thorshov and Cerny and was appointed to the faculty of the College of Architecture in 1956.

His architecture practice with David Griswold, who also graduated from the University of Minnesota, was a combination of many different commission types, and the firm joined a design aesthetic with problem-solving to create buildings that took their surroundings into account. Their buildings for the University of Minnesota include the Classroom Office Building on the St. Paul campus, and the Auditorium Classroom Building and Middlebrook Dormitory on the West Bank campus.

 Scope and Content Note

The Papers contain drawings for 28 structures designed by the architectural firm of Griswold and Rauma. There are original drawings and prints for residences, churches, educational and other buildings.
