		<head>Biographical Note</head> 
		<p>Carl A. Gage was born on November 26, 1881 in Newport, New Hampshire.
		  He studied at the Minneapolis School of Fine Arts, and worked successively for
		  the Flour City Ornamental Iron Co., and in the architectural offices of Thomas
		  Holyoke, Ernest Kennedy, Edwin Hewitt, and Bertrand &amp; Chamberlin, before
		  beginning his own practice in 1910. His private architectural practice was
		  interrupted for a brief association with Joseph Vanderbilt (1925-1926). Gage
		  again maintained his own practice after 1926. In 1928, Gage designed "West
		  Winds," the home of William E. Goodfellow. West Winds is now the home of the 
		  <extref href="http://www.thebakken.org/about-us/covers/West-Winds.html">Bakken Museum
			 </extref> of Electricity and Life. Carl Gage died on January 8, 1950 in Laguna
		  Beach, California. </p>
