Biographical Note

Harry Wild Jones was born near Kalamazoo, Michigan on June 9, 1859. He
graduated from Brown University in 1880 and the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology in 1882. After graduating from M.I.T., Jones worked for the
architect H. H. Richardson in Boston, and in 1883 he came to Minneapolis to
work in the firm of Plant and Whitney, a firm that specialized in the design
and construction of large, prestigious homes in the Minneapolis area. Harry W.
Jones died in Minneapolis on September 25, 1935.

Jones was instrumental in the establishment of the department of
architecture at the University of Minnesota in the 1890s and his tour of the
world with President William Howard Taft resulted in designs for churches in
China, India and Burma. He designed many notable buildings in Minneapolis,
including the Scottish Rite Temple (1904), Lindsay Brothers Warehouse (1895),
Bulter Square (Butler Brothers' Warehouse, 1906) and his own home at 5101
Nicollet Avenue (1887).
