		<head>Biographical Note</head> 
		<p>Claude Smith was born in Strathray, Ontario, Canada on March 28, 1889.
		  He was educated in the public schools of London, Ontario and studied
		  architecture in London and Toronto. He moved to Duluth in 1907 and worked in
		  the office of German &amp; Lignell until 1917. He then joined W.T. Bray and
		  became a partner in 1920. Smith opened his own practice in 1925 and closed his
		  office when he retired in 1957. He died in Duluth on January 23, 1967.</p>

		<head>Scope and Content Note</head> 
		<p>There are three sets of plans in this collection: plot plans for the
		  Duluth Civic Center area (1936) with A.R. Nichols (Minneapolis) as landscape
		  consultant; ink on linen drawings for the Itasca County Court House (Grand
		  Rapids, MN, 1940); and ink on linen drawings for the Lakewood Pumping Station
		  and Boiler House remodeling (Duluth, 1932), with elevations, floor plans,
		  details and specifications.</p>
