Biographical Note

Lambert Bassindale was born in Racine, Wisconsin in 1875. He was
educated at the Chicago Art Institute and worked with Chicago and New York City
architects in the design of the Cook County Court House and City Hall and the
Chicago Northwestern Terminal, both in Chicago, and the Union Railway Terminal
in Kansas City. In 1918, Bassindale came to St. Paul as an associate architect,
with Charles Frost, for the St. Paul Union Depot and the Great Northern Station
in Minneapolis. Other St. Paul buildings credited to Bassindale are the Great
Northern, Northern Pacific, Omaha and Northwestern Railroad office buildings;
First National Bank; Lowry Hotel; Midway and Northern Pacific Hospitals (1918);
St. Luke's and Northern Pacific Hospital Nurses Homes; and Wilder Day Nursery.
Bassindale was selected in 1931 as architect for the Federal Building, 3rd and
Sibley Streets, St. Paul, and hired the Chicago firm of Holabird and Root as
consultants. He retired in 1938 and moved to Alexandria, Indiana, where he died
in 1945.
