Historical Note

The Peavey Company was founded in Sioux City, Iowa in 1874 by Frank
H. Peavey. In 1884 he moved his business to Minneapolis and incorporated it in
1906. The firm began as a grain-storage company but in 1928 expanded into flour
milling with the purchase of the Van Dusen & Harrington Company, producer
of flour under the "King Midas" trademark. In 1954, Peavey acquired the
Minneapolis-based Russell-Miller Milling Company and merged all of their flour
milling operations under the name Peavey Company Flour Mills in 1963.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of 5 sheets of original drawings of
electrical details for the Crescent Elevator, a late 19th century wood crib
structure which was demolished about 1977; the drawings date from 1957 and
provide some information about the structural elements. There are also 13
sheets of original ink-on-linen drawings for a 1,000 bushel Randolph grain
drier installed in Van Dusen & Harrington’s Star Elevator, as well as 5
sheets of original drawings for alterations to the structure. The Star
Elevator, also dated from the late 19th century, has been demolished. In
addition, the collection contains original drawings for the Electric Steel
Elevator Co. grain elevator and the St. Anthony Fire Proof Elevator.
