Sherwood was a noted American dramatist. He was born in New Rochelle, N.Y., graduated from Harvard in 1918, and served in World War I. He wrote for Vanity Fair and Life magazines, serving as editor of the latter from 1924 to 1928. His first play, written in 1927, was an immediate success. He won Pulitzer prizes for many of his plays and later in his career wrote film scripts.
The collection comprises one typewritten manuscript (various foliations, 29 cm), and one letter from Sherwood to Guthrie McClintic (Nov. 2, 1926), tipped in. The play is a dramatization of Ring Lardner's story of the same name.
