Materials are open to research without restriction except for portions designated as restricted, confidential, or sealed. For the latter material, prior permission in writing from the President of the Minnesota Orchestral Association is required.

Permission to examine this collection will be granted to any qualified researcher upon completion of an application form. The original documents do not circulate and may only be used in the Reading Room of the Manuscripts Division.

 Historical Note

Minnesota Orchestra Visual Entertainment (MOVE) was a business venture established to bring classical music and the arts to children and adults in new and innovative ways. Three products were developed under the NotesAlive brand name: <emph render="bolditalic">On the Day You Were Born</emph> by Debra Frasier, <emph render="bolditalic">Nutcracker: The Untold Story</emph>, and <emph render="bolditalic">Dr. Seuss's My Many Colored Days</emph>. The products received numerous national awards from the American Library Association, Sesame Street, and TV Guide.

New scores were commissioned for the Dr. Seuss's My Many Colored Days ( Richard Einhorn) and On the Day You Were Born ( Steve Heitzeg). The original music of Tchaikovsky was used for Maurice Sendak's Nutcracker: The Untold Story. All works were recorded live by the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Eiji Oue and William Eddins.

 Scope and Content Note

The collection includes brand books, videocassettes, and other video packages of the three products. The brand books (one for each project) include brief background information about the project and copies of reviews, articles about the project and products, press releases, and copies of publicity.
