The collection includes
office files that document the activities of various Education staff as they
coordinated activities with volunteers from the Young People’s Symphony
Orchestra Association (YPSCA) and WAMSO (Women’s Association of the Minneapolis
Symphony Orchestra).

Materials are open to research without restriction except for portions
designated as restricted, confidential, or sealed. For the latter material,
prior permission in writing from the President of the Minnesota Orchestral
Association is required.
Permission to examine this collection will be granted to any qualified
researcher upon completion of an application form. The original documents do
not circulate and may only be used in the Reading Room of the Manuscripts
Division.
Restrictions on Use
Photoreproduction and audio reproduction of any materials in which the
Minnesota Orchestral Association holds copyright, shall be performed only with
the written permission of the MOA except for photoreproduction of any published
materials of the Association in the public domain.

Historical Note
In the early years of the Orchestra, there was no special staff member
who focused on educational programs. The Young People’s Symphony Orchestra
Association volunteers ran children’s concerts with some assistance from
Orchestra staff. In the late 1960s, Orchestra staff were hired to coordinate
educational activities. Some of the people who functioned in this capacity
were:

Scope and Content Note
This collection includes office files that document the activities of
various Education staff as they coordinated activities with volunteers from the
Young People’s Symphony Orchestra Association
(YPSCA) and
WAMSO (Women’s Association of the Minneapolis Symphony
Orchestra).
Boxes 1-6 focus on Young People’s
concerts and related activities. Box 6 includes copies of the special program
for YP Concerts,
Showcase for Children, and many copies of the teacher’s
guides for each concert that were prepared by Orchestra employees.
Box 7 includes general Education
office files.
Box 8 focuses on WAMSO activities for
children including
Kinder Konzerts and Master classes.
