The general manager
manages many activities of the organization, notably the artistic events. These
records include personnel records, administrative files, and programming files
from the offices of the general manager from the tenure of Boris Sokoloff
through that of Robert Neu.

Restrictions on Access
Materials are open to research without restriction except for portions
designated as restricted, confidential, or sealed. For the latter material,
prior permission in writing from the President of the Minnesota Orchestral
Association is required.
Permission to examine this collection will be granted to any qualified
researcher upon completion of an application form. The original documents do
not circulate and may only be used in the Reading Room of the Manuscripts
Division.
Restrictions on Use
Photoreproduction and audio reproduction of any materials in which the
Minnesota Orchestral Association holds copyright, shall be performed only with
the written permission of the MOA except for photoreproduction of any published
materials of the Association in the public domain.

Acquisition
Records were transferred to the archives from the 1970s through
2003.

The collection was processed and the finding aid written by Leslie
Czechowski in 2001 and updated in 2002 and 2003.
Accruals
The office of the General Manager will transfer additional materials
to the archives on a regular basis.

Historical Note
In the early years of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, the manager
was one of the few employees of the organization and handled all the
administrative duties necessary to do the business of the Association. In the
middle of the 20th century the number of employees increased and many of the
functions of the manager were divided among his staff.

Scope and Content Note
Files in Series 4.1--4.3 were
among the first to be deposited at the Manuscripts Division. At some point the
files may have been reorganized and artificial series created that were
arranged by person or office. They may be from the staff’s “string files”
(copies of correspondence that were circulated among the staff) or they may
have been files from the offices of Engle or Cisek. Only samples of significant
or illustrative correspondence were retained.
Series 4.4 includes personnel
records, administrative files, and programming files from the office of the
general manager from the tenure of
Richard Cisek through that of
Robert Neu. The manager was involved in many
activities of the organization, notably the artistic events. This series
provides an overview to these activities; more detailed records may be found in
the departmental records.
Series 4.5 also includes personnel
records, administrative records, and programming files from the office of
Robert Neu. It is expected additional records will
be transferred to the archives and added to this series.
