<p>In the early years of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra, the manager
was one of the few employees of the organization and handled all the
administrative duties necessary to do the business of the Association. In the
middle of the 20th century the number of employees increased and many of the
functions of the manager were divided among his staff. </p>

		<p>Files in <emph render="boldunderline">Series 4.1--4.3</emph> were
among the first to be deposited at the Manuscripts Division. At some point the
files may have been reorganized and artificial series created that were
arranged by person or office. They may be from the staff’s “string files”
(copies of correspondence that were circulated among the staff) or they may
have been files from the offices of Engle or Cisek. Only samples of significant
		  or illustrative correspondence were retained.</p>
		<p><emph render="boldunderline">Series 4.4</emph> includes personnel
records, administrative files, and programming files from the office of the
general manager from the tenure of
		  <persname>Richard Cisek</persname> through that of
<persname>Robert Neu</persname>. The manager was involved in many
activities of the organization, notably the artistic events. This series
provides an overview to these activities; more detailed records may be found in
		  the departmental records.</p>
		<p><emph render="boldunderline">Series 4.5</emph> also includes personnel
