		  researcher upon completion of an application form. The original documents do
		  not circulate and may only be used in the Reading Room of the Manuscripts

		<head>Biographical Note</head> 
		<p>Maestro Marriner was the seventh music director of the Minnesota
		  Orchestra from 1979-86. Highlights of his tenure include the 
		<title>British Festival</title> of Minnesota, 
		<title>Tonight Scandinavia</title>, and a celebrated two-week tour of
		Australia.</p>
		<p>Known to music lovers as the founder of the 
		  <corpname>Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields</corpname>, Marriner also
		  conducted with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber
		  Orchestra, the Stuttgart Radio Orchestra, and the Orchestre National de Paris.
		  He was born in Lincolnshire, England and studied violin at London's Royal
		  College of Music and the Paris Conservatory.</p>

		<p>This collection contains office files from the period of Marriner's
		  directorship and includes correspondence relating to Minnesota Orchestra
		  matters and to his other professional activities. Also included are notes and
		  letters of 
		  <persname>Molly Marriner</persname> and some personal correspondence.
		  Correspondence to and from other Orchestra staff (
		  <persname>Bob Jones</persname>, 
		  <persname>Miryam Yardumian</persname>, 
		  <persname>Richard Cisek</persname>) are included. Files from Marriner's
		  assistants, 
		  <persname>Linda Wallace</persname> and 
		  <persname>Sharon Garrison</persname>, may also be part of this
