The most notable accomplishment of Engle's tenure was the planning and construction of Orchestra Hall which opened to great acclaim in 1974.
The majority of the collection consists of copies of correspondence
from Engle. There are few copies of incoming letters or memos. The collection
includes both administrative and artistic correspondence, much of which focuses
on fund raising and development activities. Also included are letters that
document his professional activities and memberships, notably his work with the
Items discarded include multiple copies of correspondence, routine memos, and routine thank-you letters to donors.
