Rev. John L. Zaplotnik, a Catholic priest and missionary among Slovene Americans, came to the United States in 1902. He received a Doctor of Canon Law degree at Catholic University in Washington, D.c. He wrote biographies of Slovenian priests in the United States and a biography of the missionary Janez Cebul, as well as a book on canon law. Rev. Zaplotnik was also a founder, in 1917, of the St. Peter and Paul Parish in Omaha, Nebraska.
