<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>An educator and poet, Roman Volodomyr Kuchar (1920- ) was born in Lviv, Ukraine. He studied at the University of Lviv, the Conservatory of Music (Vienna), the University of Heidelberg, the University of Colorado, the Pratt Institute, and the Ukrainian Free University. Kuchar came to the United States following World War II and became a citizen in 1958. He taught at various places and was active in many educational, professional, and cultural organizations. He also was author of poetry, novels, essays and plays, and works on art, literature, and languages.</p>
