The Valontuote Temperance Society of Virginia, Minn., was organized in 1893. It was affiliated with the Finnish National Temperance Brotherhood in America, the central organization of local temperance societies; but in 1897 left the national organizaton because of a dispute over a rule against dancing. The Valontuote and Nuori Suomi Temperance Societies of Virginia then remained independent until they merged in 1905. The Valontuote Society had its own hall, and remained in existence until 1966.
Records (1893-1968) of the Valontuote Temperance Society, Virginia, Minn., consist of by-laws; constitutions; correspondence; membershipo books; and minutes. The Nuori Suomi Temperance Society was merged with the Valontuote Temperance Society in 1905.
