<p>Symans (originally Edward A. Syzymánski) served in Poland for many years in the United States Foreign Service. He has published three volumes of poetry and is a founder of the Polish Heritage Society of Grand Rapids (Mich.).</p>

<p>Papers of Symans consist of correspondence of him and his wife Therese M. Symans; newspaper clippings, mostly from Grand Rapids, Mich.; personal papers; research notes; and scrapbooks. Correspondence and clippings pertain to immigraton, genealogy, and articles and poetry written by Symans. Also included are newsletters of the Polish Heritage Society.</p>
