<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>A lawyer, educator, and editor, Matthew Stachiw (1895-1978) was born in Nushche, Ukraine. He received his LL.D. from the University of Prague after serving with the Ukrainian Army 1918-1920, then practiced law, taught at various universities, and served as editor and contributor of many publications. He was active in numerous Ukrainian American organizations.</p>

<p>Papers (1946-1957) of Matthew Stachiw (1895-1978) include announcements, flyers, and miscellany on Ukrainian American activities, and a copy of "Ohliad boievoï diial'nosty na ukraïns'kykh zemlialch zaniatykh Pol'shcheiu za 1922-yi rik" (Overview of Battle Activities on Ukrainian lands Occupied by Poland in 1922).</p>
