<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>George J. Spatuzza (1896-1979) was born in Sicily and came to the United States in 1909. He became a lawyer, and served as OSIA Supreme Venerable (1947-1957) and as Grand Venerable of Illinois (1926-1928, 1931-1947).</p>

<head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The George J. Spatuzza Order Sons of Italy in America collection includes records of the Supreme Lodge (1937-1957) and of the Illinois Grand Lodge (1920-1960). Supreme Lodge records include correspondence, convention records, many committee reports, such as those from the Immigration and Naturalization Commission, reports of Washington lobbyist Leonard Pasqualicchio, and occasional Supreme Council minutes. Materials of the Illinois Grand Lodge feature most issues of The Bulletin (1927-1954), convention records, correspondence, booklets from OSIA and other Italian events, such as Italo Balbo's 1933 reception, memoranda on visits to local lodges, and various reports. There are many drafts of speeches given by Spatuzza,a large collection of nespaper clippings relating to numerous topics, and issues of Italian and English language newspapers. Also included are photogrpahs, plaques and certificates, as well as national and state OSIA convention ribbons (1932-1965).</p>
