<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>Vincenzo Procopio (1873-1943) was born in San Vito Sull Ionio, Calabria, trained as a lawyer at the University of Rome, and came to New York City in the late 1890s. He worked as a lawyer, banker, and steamship agent and then moved to West Virginia where he was a co-editor of La Sentinella. He served the Order Sons of Italy in America as First Grand Venerable of West Virginia (1923-1929), and as an OSIA Supreme Trustee (1935-1939).</p>

<head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>The Vincenzo Procopio Order Sons of Italy in America Collection (19895-1941) consists of personal papers of Procopio and materials relating to OSIA. Personal papers include Procopio's student card from the University of Rome (1895), a press card for a Messina newspaper (1897), picture cards promoting his New York City legal and financial services (1905), and letters (1908-1928) thanking him for his work on behalf of Republican candidates in West Virginia. Materials relating to OSIA include newspaper clippings describing OSIA activities, photographs depicting Grand and Supreme lodge functions (ca. 1930s), artifacts, including Supreme Convention ribbons and medals (1929-1941), regalia for Supreme Trustee and Grand Venerable. Also included a some non-OSIA artifacts.</p>
