<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>Valeria (or Valerie) Wycke Nurczynska (1897-1967), a singer, was born in Lodz, Poland. She came to the U.S. as a child, and studied voice. In 1920 she became a U.S. citizen. During World War II, she was chair of the United Women's Society of Greater Boston (affiliated with Polish War Relief). She was a member of the Polish National Alliance (Chicago), organizer and secretary of Lodge 3008; was a founder of the Polish Singers' Alliance of New England, and of Lira Chorus of Boston. Walter Nurczynski (1893-1962) was also born in Poland. He became a U.S. citizen in 1920. From 1937-1944, he produced the Boston area radio program "Echoes of Poland," and ca. 1943 was president of the Polish War Relief Committee of Boston.</p>

<head>Scope and Content</head>
<p>Papers consist of correspondence, newspaper clippings, sheet music (mostly of songs sung by Valeria), radio scripts, and financial reports of the Polish War Relief Committee of Boston (ca. 1944). Also included are correspondence and photographs of Alexandra J. Jaskolski and papers of Karol Jaskolski.</p>
