Alex Kyyhkynen (1888-1984) was born in Kemijärvi, Finland. In 1910, he came to Duluth, Minnesota, where he opened the Dove Clothing Store. Throughout his long life, Kyyhkynen was active in Finnish American organizations. He was a founder and president of the Minnesota Finnish-American Historical Society, a member of the Finnish American fraternity, The Knights of Kaleva, active in the Messiah Lutheran Church (Duluth, Minn.), and instrumental in publication of Hans R. Wasastjerna's History of the Finns in Minnesota. He also served as Finnish Consul for Northern Minnesota and was awarded the First Class Knight of the White Rose Order of Finland in 1965.

Scope and Content

Papers (1940-1979) of Alex Kyyhkynen (1888-1984) consist of personal material and records of Finnish American organizations in Minnesota, particularly the Minnesota Finnish-American Historical Society.
