Biographical/Historical Note

A. L. Klemi (1874-1924) was born in Iitti, Finland, the son of musically inclined parents. He received musical training early in life and attended three years of college. After college, he worked on the railroad as a telegrapher and station master in Russia and Finland, and composed several musical pieces. Klemi immigrated to the United States where he continued to compose music. He worked in the United States as a translator on Ellis Island, a motorman and conductor for a trolley line, and later in a music store.
