The Jarven Kukka Temperance Society was organized in Sparta, Minn. in 1897. It was transferred to Gilbert, Minn. in 1909, when the town of Sparta was forced to move because of the development of new iron ore mines. Income for the Society came mainly from membership dues and receipts from frequent social events. In 1898, the Jarven Kukka Society built its own hall in Sparta, and later built a hall in Gilbert. By 1921, however, debts had forced the Society to give up its assets and it apparently ceased to exist about that time.
