William Heikkila (1906-1960) was born in Vehti, Finland. His father was a Finnish citizen residing in Minnesota and his mother, a native of Finland, was a naturalized American citizen. William Heikkila lived in the United States but was never naturalized. For this reason and because of his activities in the Communist Party during the 1930's, deportation proceedings were instituted against him in 1947. The trials and appeals continued until 1958, but attempts to deport Heikkila failed.

Scope and Content

Papers (1947-1962) of William Heikkila (1906-1960) consist of legal files relating to his deportation case, and newspaper clippings about the case.
