Scope and Content

Sophia (Chakiris) Fergis (b. 1909) manuscript consists of a personal narrative entitled "Escape to a New Dawn: Based on a True Story". The story describes her family's suffering in their home town of Platiano, Turkey, beginning in 1913, their immigration to Thessalonika in 1914 and to the United States in 1915-1916; and their life in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also included is a photograph of Fergis, ca. 1924.
