Biographical/Historical Note

Michelangelo Crisafi (1893-1972) was born in the province of Palermo, Sicily. To escape and protest the regime of King Emanuel III, Crisafi left Italy in 1912 and settled in New Haven, Connecticut where for forty-five years he labored for the Tilo Roofing Company. Crisafi's first love was the life of poet and writer, and in 1916 he took the pseudonymn of Germoglino Saggio, under which he published prolifically in Italy and the United States. Crisafi corresponded with many of his peers, among them Alessandro Sisca (Riccardo Cordiferro) Angelo M. Virga; Nino Caradonna; Pietro Greca; Luigi Roberto Burgo; Giuseppe Incalicchio and Antonino Crivello. In later years, Crisafi aided the founding of a library in his hometown of Calatta, Sicily.
