Helena (Ogrodowska) Bristol (b. 1896) was born in Zyrardów, Poland. She came to the United States in 1905 with her family so that her father could escape conscription into the Russian army; they settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was educated at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia College of Music and for many years taught English at the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Ogrodowska authored several books, including House of Tuttle; After Thirty Years: Poland Revisited (1939); and Let the Blackbird Sing: A Novel in Verse (1952).
Papers (1937-1966) of Helana (Ogrodowska) Bristol (b. 1896), an author and former teacher of English at the Philadelphia High School for Girls, include her manuscript and published writings. She wrote the long narrative poem Let the Blackbird Sing and the reminiscence, After Thirty Years: Poland Revisited.
