Biographical/Historical Note

After World War II nearly 100 Ukrainian painters and sculptors came to the United States. In 1952, they founded the Association of Ukrainian Artists in America. The Association stages art exhibits and its members hold frequent individual showings. In addition to the New York group,

there are local groups in Chicago, Detroit, Minneapolis, Philadelphia and other cities. Some Ukrainian painters in the United States continue to be extensively engaged in church art, representing a neo-Byzantine school; others pursue careers as magazine illustrators, cinematographers, and art instructors.
