<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>Joseph Alecks, a Polish American from Massachusetts, began his career as a newspaper reporter. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was secretary during the 1950s to Boston mayors John B. Hynes and John Collins. He eventually became Comptroller of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Alecks was a graduate of Suffolk University and Northeastern University, and a prominent member of the Polish American community and numerous Polish American organizations. He authored a Massachusetts state law commemorating Polish Constitution Day and was instrumental in naming of the Gen. Casimir Pulaski Skyway and other area landmarks.</p>
