<head>Biographical/Historical Note</head>
<p>Father Bertrand Kotnik (1913- ) was born in Austria, of Slovenian descent. He was ordained as a priest in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in 1935, and remained there through World War II. Fleeing the Yugoslav Communists in 1945, he returned to Austria where he continued his duties. He emigrated to the United States in 1947. Fr. Kotnik entered the Franciscan St. Mary's Seminary (Lemont, Ill.) in 1948. In the 1970s, he returned to Austria, where he has lived in Boelkermarkv and serves as chaplain of a private girls school.</p>
