Biographical/Historical Note

Erik A. Dundurs (1922-1984) left his native Latvia in 1944, just ahead of the advancing Russian army. He fled to Germany, where he worked for the International Refugee Organization. While in Germany, he married his wife, Ruta, and in 1949 they immigrated to Minnesota. The couple had two sons. Between 1949 and 1951, Mr. and Mrs. Dundurs served as managers of a St. Paul (Minn.) resettlement home for displaced persons. After 1951, Dundurs worked as a sales manager, an insurance agency owner, and a radio talk show host. Most recently, he was employed as district director, U.S. Savings Division, Department of the Treasury, Minneapolis. Dundurs was very active in the Twin Cities Latvian community. He founded and served as president of the Council for the Liberation of Captive Peoples from Soviet Domination. He was also an active member of the Republican Party.
