		<p>James W. Birkenstock joined International Business Machines
		  Corporation (IBM) as a salesman in 1935. He was appointed as a Corporate Vice
		  President in 1958 and elected director of IBM World Trade Corporation in 1966.
		  During his tenure at IBM, Birkenstock was involved with the interaction between
		  IBM and British Tabulating Machine Company (BTM). </p>
