		<p>Most of the materials in this collection were donated by J. Harold
		  Kittleson to the Orchestra in 2000. Mary Ann Feldman, Orchestra historian,
		  added some materials before the collection was transferred to the archives in
		  July 2001.</p>

		<head>Biographical History</head> 
		<p>
		  <persname>Jenny Cullen</persname> was the first female member of the 
		  <corpname>Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra</corpname> during the tenure
		  of 
		  <persname>Henri Verbrugghen</persname>. She was born in Glasgow in 1890
		  and studied with Verbrugghen there. She accompanied him to Australia when he
		  become conductor of the Sidney Orchestra and then to Minneapolis. She also
		  taught at 
		  <corpname>Carleton College</corpname> and 
		  <corpname>Hamline University</corpname>.</p>

		<head>Scope and Content Note</head>
		<p>
		  <persname>J. Harold Kittleson </persname>was a long-time friend of
		  Jenny Cullen. He received books and photos from her and corresponded with her
		  and her friends and relations. He was also involved with the authors of 
		<title><emph render="italic">Jenny Cullen, a Study in
		  Blue</emph></title>, a biographical sketch written by 
		<persname>Barbara Lamb</persname> and 
		<persname>David Eagle</persname>. This collection contains many of these
		items plus an article from <emph render="italic">Showcase</emph> magazine about
		the donation written by 
		<persname>Mary Ann Feldman</persname>.</p> 
		<p>Books owned by Jenny Cullen were not retained in the collection
		  (although there is a list of them). A framed set of four photographs of
		  Carleton College faculty was transferred to their collection.</p>
