		  <persname>Henry Denecke, Jr</persname>. was timpanist with the

		<p>
		  <persname>Peter Kogan </persname>is the Principal Timpanist of the
		  Minnesota Orchestra. In the introduction to the final transcript, Kogan says:
		  "About three years ago, I was coming off stage from a morning children's
		  concert, when
		  <persname>Marv Dahlgren </persname>introduced me to a distinguished
		  elderly gentleman with a proud bearing: Henry Denecke, Jr., his teacher and
		  former timpanist of the Minneapolis Symphony. What a surprise! I began
		  wondering about the wealth of knowledge and career experience he must have had.
		  So last May I found myself at his doorstep with a borrowed tape recorder and a
		  camera in hand."</p>

		<p>The collection includes audio cassette tapes and transcriptions of
		  interviews done by Peter Kogan of Henry Denecke, Jr. Because they are both
		  timpanists, the focus of the interviews was on drumming. Denecke discusses his
		  training under his father, his career as a timpanist, and details of
		  maintaining drums, sticks, etc. He also discusses his career as a conductor,
		  notably with the Northwest Sinfonietta, the Winnipeg Symphony, and the Cedar
		  Rapids (Iowa) Symphony.</p>
