Eve Bunting placed this collection was placed on permanent loan at the Children's Literature Research Collection at the University of Minnesota in 1980 with additional material added by the author during the 1980s and 1990s.

Biographical Sketch

Eve Bunting was born December 19, 1928 in Maghera, County Derry, Northern Ireland. She graduated from Methodist College in Belfast in 1945, and attended Queens University, Belfast for two years. In 1960, Eve Bunting and her husband and three children moved to California, where she began taking writing classes at a local college. In 1972, Eve Bunting published her first book The Two Giants, a story based on the Irish legend of Finn McCool the giant. Throughout her long and prolific career, Eve Bunting has used her knowledge of Irish folklore and the socio-political situation in Northern Ireland in some of her books for children and young adults. Eve Bunting writes young adult novels in several genres, producing suspense novels and ghost stories as well as realistic ones that deal with contemporary issues such as surrogate motherhood, latchkey children, gangs and pollution. She also writes books for young readers that address serious issues such as ecology and nursing homes, and won the 1995 Caldecott Award for Smoky Night, a book dealing with the Los Angeles riots. She has published over one hundred books, both fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults. Her books are noted for their realism and sympathetic characterizations, as well as Eve Buntings's gift of "storytelling." While some critics have faulted her for "pulling away" from the "sensitive issues" she raises, her "readability" and success in drawing children and young adults into her stories have been cited by many others. Scope and Content

The collection contains production material for forty-three titles published between 1978 and 1998. Production materials include typescripts, front matter, galley and page proofs, notes, research material including photographs and dummies. The collection also contains some correspondence mostly concerning various books' publication, and a photograph of the author. The materials are arranged by title with folder and box level control.
