Biographical Sketch

Rhoda Blumberg was born in 1917 in New York, New York. She received her BA from Adelphi College in 1938 and also did graduate work at Columbia University. She was a freelance writer for CBS radio 1940-1944. She was a talent scout for NBC radio 1945-1946. She was a magazine writer 1940-. She is best known for her children's books of historical nonfiction. She has received numerous awards for her work, among them the Newbery Honor Book Award in 1986 for her book Commodore Perry in the Land of the Shogun.
