		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p>Walker was born near Macksville, Kansas in 1908. She was an educator
		  and author of more than 50 books for children. She worked as a teacher, raised
		  a family, and graduated from Sacramento State College in 1958. She then became
		  a full-time author. She is best known for her series of books for slow readers,
		  the <emph render="italic">Cowboy Sam</emph> series. She died in 1982.</p>
