		  Sketch</emph></head> 
		<p>The author of over eight titles, Patricia Miles Martin earned many
		  awards for her children's books, sometimes writing under the names Jerry Lane,
		  Patricia A. Miles, or Miska Miles. Patricia Miles was born in the Midwest,
		  attended the University of Wyoming, and taught school for four years before
		  moving to California with her husband, Edward R. Martin. She signed up for a
		  class in creative writing at the College of San Mateo because the upholstery
		  course she wanted was full, and published her first book, <emph render="italic">Sylvester Jones and the Voice in the Forest</emph>, the next
		  year. </p>
